Taupō District Council is looking for a Communications Advisor to help us share our stories and add value throughout our community.

Working across the organisation, you will provide specialist communications and marketing advice to help raise our profile and strengthen the community’s understanding of our role in looking after the place we all love.

You’ll lead some of our key communication initiatives including our weekly newsletter Connect so you’ll have a nose for what makes a great story and be a meticulous wordsmith.

You’ll also be able to identify the most effective tools and channels to share those stories more widely across both traditional and digital platforms.

We’re a hard-working team that delivers communications & marketing strategies & plans for council projects & activities with the goal of collaborating and connecting with our community.

One day you might be working on a behaviour change campaign helping to reduce waste across our district, the next, you might be covering an exhibition at the museum. It’s never dull!

As part of our team, you’ll enjoy a varied, busy, and interesting position that covers a wide range of projects and initiatives across council.

Our stakeholders include residents, ratepayers, community groups, businesses, iwi and hapū, landowners, local & central government, other agencies, and project partners.

As a Communications Team, we all chip into the delivery of communications, media, digital and campaign management. We also play a role in civil defence and emergency management public information management.

Role responsibilities include :

  • Developing professional communication plans for Council’s projects and activities.
  • Developing and improving communication systems and channels.
  • Ensuring professional and brand standards are maintained for all external publications.
  • Producing internal and external Council documents and publications, including media releases.
  • Support with creative marketing plans and initiatives to complement Council activities and reputation.
  • Support with the development and delivery of social media content and communications.
  • About you :

    We’re after someone with a critical eye for detail, a creative mind for design and delivery, and an ability to meet challenging deadlines and tight budgets.

    You must be comfortable using a wide range of traditional and digital platforms to engage and inspire an audience.

    The successful candidate should hold a relevant qualification or be able to demonstrate relevant experience in creating media releases, content for web and social, implementing communications campaigns, compiling advertisements and publications, and copywriting for a variety of channels.

    Our ideal candidate will have :

  • A passion for creating engaging content through writing.
  • Minimum of 2 years communications and / or public relations / media experience.
  • A proven track record of producing marketing material and media releases.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with an eye for detail.
  • A talent in relaying complex ideas into user-friendly and captivating language for readers.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • A can-do positive team player with a collaborative and energetic approach.
