We boast a Top 10 most loved beach in New Zealand and have access to mountains, rivers and lakes, making Timaru an ideal destination for recreational, sporting and cultural pursuits.

Let’s not forget about that 7 minute commute to work!

The Organisation

The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future.

With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.

The Role / Person

If you love our district’s vibrant natural environment, parks, reserves and open spaces, our Parks and Recreation team have the ideal role for you! This team is harder to get into than Harvard, with only five appointments made in the last 30 years.

You will be tasked with the auditing of parks maintenance contracts, and maintenance contracts for specific halls and public toilets administered by the Property Unit.

You will assess horticultural practice and standards delivered by parks contractors in excess of 450 separate locations - covered by 17 contracts.

You will have an eye for identifying issues that have the potential to impact on the ongoing presentation of our fantastic parks and open spaces.

Experience in auditing and involvement in projects which have significant impact on communities, would be highly advantageous.

Your methodical approach, paralleled with a capability to multi-task across a range of activities, allows you to maintain your accuracy and attention to detail, even with high volumes of work.

Alongside a relevant tertiary qualification in Horticulture, arboriculture, turf management or a related field, and experience working in the parks, open space or recreation management area, we’re looking for someone who has the ability to work successfully in partnership with a range of contractors and stakeholders to create excellent outcomes.

If you’re an all-round good sort and enjoy a curry on a Friday let us know!
