  • We have permanent entry level positions available in Wellington with necessary training provided giving you all the skills needed to perform this role.

    With a focus on safety for our people and our communities, a Trainee Safety Protector you will liaise with customers, subcontractors and train control in protecting our rail corridor.

    You will need to understand and follow the rules and processes to keep people safe. You will also conduct pre-start meeting inductions, assist with preparing land entry permits and safety plans.

    You might be the right person for a trainee safety protector role if you are :

  • Able to follow rules 100% of the time
  • Able to interact with people, to collaborate, coach and inform
  • Passionate about keeping people safe at work
  • Enjoy being part of a high energy team, yet can work independently
  • It is essential you are alert, conscious of surroundings and aware of where people in the rail corridor are at all times.

    Being able to adapt to changing conditions and being able to think on your feet will make you an ideal candidate for this job.

    It is essential you have :

  • Full driver's licence, Class 2 licence will be beneficial
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and radio communication experience will be advantageous
  • Good computer skills with an eye for detail
  • Be physically fit and happy to work in all weather conditions
  • Available to work non-standard hours as required (including nights, weekends and public holidays)
  • Health and Safety focus with ability to think outside the square
  • You must also be able to pass a Ministry of Justice check and complete a mandatory medical and drug test to be considered for this role.
