About Us

PHARMAC is the Crown Entity that ensures New Zealanders have the medicines, medical devices and vaccines they need to help them get well and stay well.

Every year PHARMAC makes more medicines available for more New Zealanders.

The PHARMAC model is truly unique. We are a small organisation (around 130 staff) where your expertise is respected, and you can really make a difference for people.

We take pride in what we do, work hard and have fun.

The Role

Our Pharmaceutical Funding team is growing, so we are seeking experienced, passionate people who will help take our team to the next level.

How do you get the best value for money from the national budget for pharmaceuticals?

This, in a nutshell, is the critical question that PHARMAC's Therapeutic Group Managers seek to address from rigorous clinical, economic and commercial analysis of funding proposals to working effectively with clinicians and leading complex contract negotiations and the development of business cases.

It's all about making real improvements to the lives of New Zealanders and helping ensure health sector resources are used as effectively as possible.

In this rewarding and challenging role, you will be responsible for managing PHARMAC's funding activities within a range of therapeutic areas.

This is a real opportunity to be at the core of PHARMAC's operations - influencing the practical intersect of evidence-based medicine, economics and commerce.

About You

Your high level of analytical ability and problem solving will be critical when presenting clear business cases derived from complex scientific / clinical data, non-financial information and financial data.

Your ability to work with ease with clinicians and senior stakeholders will be essential to your success within this role.

You may be currently working in a clinical role, health-related management or within the pharmaceutical industry. It will be essential that you can write to a high level and make recommendations in a succinct and detailed way.

In addition to your pharmaceutical and / or health sector knowledge, you will bring proven project management and commercial negotiation abilities and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

The role has a level of autonomy and applicants will need to be self-driven to manage time-pressured work but also need to work as part of a team.

You will be part of the Pharmaceutical Funding team and supported to learn and succeed in our fast paced and dynamic workplace.

We would aim to assign you to a therapeutic group you have some familiarity with.

What We Offer

PHARMAC is a learning organisation that supports its people to develop and you will have a thirst to learn and use new skills to support our work.

We are committed to championing workplace inclusion, acknowledging that in order to do their best work, people must be able to bring their whole selves to work and work in a way that best suits their individual needs.

This includes supporting accessibility and being willing to make accommodations to facilitate the inclusion in the workplace of people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disability and religions.

We are a pro-equity organisation, with a dedicated focus on Māori and Pacific Peoples' health gain and we are open to exploring flexible work arrangements on request.

We will contribute to relocation costs for those moving to Wellington to take up this role.

We offer our employees a paid Volunteer Day at a charity or community initiative of your choice. PHARMAC is also a member of the N3 program, which provides significant discounts to our employees at several leading New Zealand retailers.
