    To do this we are forecasting significant increases in both grid and local network connected energy resources.

    About the team

    The Power Systems team's main focus is to provide power system engineering expertise, in particular to continually work at identifying, classifying and mitigating existing and future power system risks so that in our role as system operator we can continue to securely operate New Zealand's power system.

  • We work with closely with the Electricity Authority to prepare New Zealand for a carbon zero energy future, by helping evolve the Electricity Industry Participants Code (the Code) to accommodate new energy technologies, and with Asset Owners to : understand their assets capability and performance against the Code;
  • investigate system events; commissioning and testing new or existing assets connected to the power system. We also manage the divisions event investigation, risk and assurance frameworks.

    Our Operations division is involved in working with electricity market participants, transmission and distribution network owners, and asset owners for any energy resource with a capacity greater than 1MW.

    To ensure we continue to have enough capability available to meet the increase in demand for our service we must look to automation and continuous improvement!

    The Opportunity

    As a member of the collaborative and supportive Power Systems Group, you'll love the varied work and fully utilise both your soft and technical skills as a pragmatic and customer centric power systems professional.

    You'll work closely with other power system professionals to explore and communicate the challenges and opportunities that the transition to a 100% renewable electricity system will bring.

    Thinking broadly and using your well-developed analytical and communication skills you'll help us engage with the Electricity Authority and industry participants to make the required changes to the market, standards and the Code to enable a secure and reliable electricity system.

    What will you bring?

    Your experience may include working for a Transmission System Operator, Grid Owner or Engineering Consultancy, where you have honed your ability to understand, analyse and solve complex power system problems.

    In this role that experience will be tested as you consider the implications to power system operations, system stability and system security of an evolving power system with an increasing penetration of renewable technology.

    To be considered your previous experience, application and cover letter will demonstrate :

  • A Bachelor's degree in Power or Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience with Power System Analysis Tools to support building dynamic power system models, performing load flow and time domain simulations;
  • ideally DSA Tools (TSAT) or DIgSILENT PowerFactory

  • High level, real world analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • You take an enterprise-wide view and have the curiosity to question and look beyond the obvious to seek alternatives
  • An innate ability to work with / lead a team through influence, to deliver technical projects
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills - both verbal and written
  • Bonus points for one or more of the following; knowledge of the New Zealand electricity industry, the Electricity Industry Participation Code and commissioning and testing experience.
