Team Leader Nursery Work in of the most beautiful parks around Auckland Manage our Nursery and support our revegetation 1 million visitors have pride at work He angit tanga The opportunity By managing the Botanic Gardens Nursery you will support the revegetation of our public parks through producing around 65 000 native plants annually You are also responsible for producing new plants and replacements for the displays and collections at Auckland Botanic Gardens The Botanic Gardens gets over one million visitors per year The nursery is accredited under the NZ nursery biosecurity scheme and you will be involved in maintaining this accreditation to ensure that the plants grown at the Gardens do not spread pests and disease This exciting opportunity doesn t come around often it s been nearly 40 years since we last needed to advertise this role We are looking for a highly organised and passionate horticulturalist with extensive nursery experience to manage our nursey team and production systems Key responsibilities Lead and work with a small but productive team of staff and volunteers Manage the production of our Regional parks revegetation programmes and conservation projects and ensure clients are satisfied with the quantity and quality of plants produced Proactively remain at the forefront of industry trends technical developments in nursery management and biosecurity Participate in the planning processes including business planning and Plant Collections Guidelines Meet Botanic Gardens production targets and ensure effective communications with the field team on crop performance Prerequisites An appropriate horticultural qualification preferably level 6 Nursery management knowledge with ideally 5 years practical experience in nursery production Proven team leadership with experience in coaching and developing staff Demonstrated achievements in work planning managing budgets Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Safety procedures in the workplace A current full NZ drivers licence He k rero m u About you If you have proven experience in leadership and nursery management and a genuine passion for horticulture and our environment then this is the role for you We require an individual who is looking a role within the horticulture industry that fulfils your passion for plants people and the environment As a part of Auckland Council drug and alcohol policy preemployment checks you will be subject to drug alcohol and police screening Ng huatanga kei a m tou What we offer The nursery is a small team of 3 staff supported by several keen volunteers that help us each week We contribute to the wellbeing and vibrancy of Auckland providing places for everyone to enjoy the outdoors Applications close on the 23rd February 2020 Auckland Council is an equal opportunity employer EOE and we are committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion If you have any support or access requirements we encourage you to advise us at the time of application to assist you through the recruitment process
