8 FTE positionAbout the role : The Head of the Auckland Policy Office (APO) is a key position connecting Auckland with government outcomes.
Its main focus is urban and economic development whilst maintaining a broader system level overview to ensure alignment with social, environmental and cultural aspects.
This position is a catalyst for change and has the required authority to work jointly with Departmental Chief Executives and senior leaders in Wellington and Auckland to address issues affecting Auckland on a national level as well as improving policy coordination making a positive difference for Auckland.
The Head of the APO will be a source of intelligence to the APO Chief Executive Governance Group whilst maintaining a dotted reporting line to MBIE's Chief Executive.
The office is responsible for bringing an informed Auckland perspective on the development of central government policy and how it impacts on Auckland and national economic growth for New Zealand.
As the Head of the APO, you will provide overall leadership to the office. As a confident and influential communicator, you will ensure delivery on an agreed cross-agency work programme and a joined-up government approach by managing, facilitating and negotiating a wide range of diverse stakeholders, including public services, iwi and business.
We are looking for a highly successful leader who has : Significant experience at a senior level leading strategic policy functions within the public sector or a large complex private sector organisation.
Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate people especially during times of change.A reputation for political nous and proven track record of building and maintaining the trust of senior colleagues, Ministers and other senior officialsProven leadership and involvement in Auckland issues and concerns including a substantial understanding of the New Zealand economy.
Demonstrated deep understanding of how New Zealand State Services operate.Experience in contributing to the development and implementation of organisational operating models.
