The Outdoor Experience Team within Council’s Active Recreation Unit provides customised outdoor recreation programmes for school students and community groups across the Auckland region.
This role will emphasize learning through experience with activities such as bushcraft, environmental awareness, navigation, outdoor cooking, archery, cycle skills, raft building, sea kayaking, mountain biking, amazing race events and some overnight camps.

He kōrero mōu : About you
We are seeking an experienced Team Leader who has a depth of knowledge, the ability to design & deliver flexible programmes based on the needs & expectations of the participants in school and community settings.
An understanding of cultural diversity and appreciation of Māori tikanga is a valuable attribute.
To be successful in leading Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) you will need proven instructional & coaching skills with the goal of providing students with a remarkable experience.
An important aspect to this role is liaising with teachers, community leaders and developing on-going customer relationships.
Therefore, excellent organisational and interpersonal skills is key to succeeding. The role includes programme development, correspondence, providing cost-effective quotations and covering all safety management aspects.
Ideally you will hold an NZOIA Sea Kayak Award and have experience in bike instruction. You will need to be able to provide guidance and training to other staff members and have had significant involvement in maintaining a safety management system.
You will need a full driver's licence and have experience driving manual vans and towing trailers. A current First Aid qualification is mandatory and pre-employment drug-testing and police vetting are requirements.

Working with the Outdoor Experience team will give you the opportunity to contribute to community-based activities and experiential learning with students.
You will be able to focus on active outdoor recreation and positively influence the wellbeing of youth and families.
The small Outdoor Experience team will provide you with a great opportunity to further develop your skills in customer interaction, leadership and facilitation.
You will also be a part of the wider Leisure network with a focus on staff development and continuous improvement. You will have access to staff benefits such as a membership to council pool and fitness centres.
This is a Fixed Term full-time role until the end of August 2021; rostered over 7 days per week including weekends and you will be based in Otara.
