We are seeking aSenior / Policy Advisor to join our Environmental Policy Department for afixed-term of 15 months. You will be based in the heart of Wellington in ourbrand new Cuba St office with easy access to many of the fantastic places andopportunities that people love about our capital city.
This is an excitingtime to join our high performing team as we are at a crucial stage in ourimplementation of national policy direction into the Regional Policy Statementand Natural Resources Plan for the Wellington Region.
We can only solve thecomplex natural resource problems that we face with an openness to new ideasand methodologies, intelligence, enthusiasm and a collaborative approach.
Youwill play a lead role in developing plan changes to improve the environment inthe Wellington Region
Youwill support the Regional Council's implementation of the National PolicyStatements for Urban Development and Freshwater Management
Youwill bring alive our purpose of working with mana whenua, partners and thecommunity for the greater good of the Wellington Region.

About the role :
In this position youwill contribute to the Department’s work, including :
theimplementation of the Regional Policy Statement and the drafting of submissionsto central and local government
Planchanges to the Regional Policy Statement and associated First Schedule Process,
thedevelopment of the Proposed Natural Resources Plan, including plan changes, andassociated First Schedule processes, incorporating national direction andWhaitua Implementation Programmes, and
theoperation of whaitua committees.
Skills and experiencerequired :
To be successful inthis role, you will need :
A tertiary qualification in natural resourcemanagement, planning, law, public policy, economics, environmental science orsimilar
An understanding of and respect for te aoMāori and tikanga
Skills or an interest in learning te reoMāori and using it in your work
An understanding of the Resource ManagementAct 1991, and the role of regional councils in New Zealand
The ability to work with partners to analyseand develop options for regional natural resource management issues
Excellent oral and written communicationskills
Strong relationship management skills
To be considered atthe Senior Policy Advisor level you will need to demonstrate the ability toperform a leadership role within a project, take on more complex issues andprovide mentoring support to other members of a team.
