MidCentral DHB has embarked on an ambitious system wide quality improvement plan to help achieve our strategy and vision.

The goal is effective and sustainable improvement in patient experience and outcomes while living within our financial means.

A range of strategic change programmes have been developed focusing on quality and business improvement in patient flow, workforce, pharmacy, outpatients, community contracting, imaging and birthing services.

In development of the programmes, it became clear the DHB needed additional capability and capacity in data analytics from analysts who have the right mix of technical, people and visualisation skills to both validate and discover hidden insights.

This role will be a key player in the Data Analytics Team.

Role Purpose

Tasked to discover, interpret, engage, and visualise the compelling story to influence decision makers in the efficient and effective operation of the organisation.

This includes :

  • Data : deep dive to build understanding and generate questions
  • Information : structure and analyse the data
  • Knowledge : understand and interpret through engaging with people to understand context
  • Insights : present the knowledge gained to both inform and influence decision makers.
  • Requirements

  • Comfortable working in a highly complex and challenging environment including the ability to acquire new system knowledge quickly
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changes in direction and focus
  • Experience and skills in using data for continuous quality improvement cycles
  • The people skills to engage and communicate effectively at all levels - governance / executive, clinical leaders and front-line staff
  • Advanced data extraction and manipulation skills using business intelligence tools like WhereScape and SQL with strong Microsoft Office product familiarity
  • Advanced analytical and statistical experience and expertise including modelling, forecasting, capacity vs demand management, benchmarking, strategic and operational metric development and monitoring progress highlighting success and areas where additional focus is needed
  • Able to use modern visualisation techniques, such as Qlik, to convert data into a compelling story.

    General Information

    MidCentral District Health Board employs more than 2500 staff at Manawatu, Palmerston North, Tararua and Horowhenua and Otaki districts.

    Palmerston North Hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000.

    In addition, the hospital is a teaching hospital, and is associated with both Auckland and Otago medical schools.

    Palmerston North is a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures.

    Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa.
