The Site Quality Control is responsible for developing and executing quality and operational excellence with philosophy of the workplace where problem-

solving, teamwork, and leadership results in the ongoing improvement of the organization. Also, Inspection is a major component of quality control, where physical product must be 100% examined visually & functionally tested prior to be released to the warehouse and / or despatch to the Customer or End User.

The position is accountable for managing and driving the Quality Control process, including avoidance of unacceptable product defects at the New Zealand Branch.

To achieve this goal, the Site Quality Control will focus on the customers' needs, keeping the employees positive and empowered, and continually improving the current QC service provided for new product introductions, commercial trading, trials, rentals and oxygen services in order to achieve the business’s operational goals.

Essential Functions : Assembly Process

Assembly Process

  • Implement robust quality control inspections in various areas of the company, including inwards, assembly process and shipping to ensure all finished goods complies with Invacare’s quality standards and Customer’s specifications
  • Work with the Assembly & Equipment Services Manager for the introduction of Lean Manufacturing philosophy across the assembly line, including implementation of Kaizen, root cause analysis, problem solving methodologies, standardised work, continuous flow, push-
  • pull system, cell-manufacturing, Kanban, Poka Yoke, leveling workload, maintenance programs, work station design, etc.

  • Assist on the implementation of a robust end-to-end 5S program across the New Zealand Facility
  • Utilises progressive methodologies to eliminate product variation and defect ratio, such as, Statistical Quality Control (SQC), Total Quality Control (TQC), Statistical Proces Control (SPC), Product Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (pFMEA), Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma
  • Introduction of Digital Systems and Information Technology for quality control analysis, data collection, real-time product traceability and KPI reporting
  • Conducts quality control analysis, and develops associated CAPA plans to eliminate waste and root causes of non-conformities or other undesirable situations
  • Participate in daily production team meetings to improve products and processes, assuring effective and efficient Quality inputs related to product assembly and site quality control
  • Technical Services & Engineering

  • Ensure all Technicians, Assemblers and internal stakeholders clearly understand their roles and responsibilities about Quality Control and their impact supporting the business
  • Accountable for delivering and communicating robust quality controls that balance the competing requirements of Trial Set Ups, Rentals, Oxygen and Equipment Servicing requirements
  • Conduct tests and inspection of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality performance, and maintain adequate records (e.g. SWAB test)
  • Actively contributes to Quality Control decisions on capital expenditures, KPI indicators, new product introduction, environmental health & safety and QA / QC improvements
  • Implements and supports new / revised software, tooling, equipment and machinery to be used
  • Writes and processes Engineering Change Notices (ECN) for process improvements, cost savings and manufacturability improvement projects
  • Analysis and Reporting

  • Manage, analyze and communicating Quality Control Key Performance Indicators and trends
  • QC Non-Conformance Reports
  • QC Corrective Actions / Preventive Actions Reports
  • Measurement of site quality control performance
  • Constantly research more effective and efficient QC process improvement strategies
  • Leadership & Behavior

  • Lead New Zealand facility ensuring all employees clearly understand their service targets, roles and responsibilities, and business’s expectations regarding the internal quality control process
  • Work with the Supply Chain Manager to identify potential risks, opportunities and / or key drivers
  • Ensure all employees are motivated and developed to achieve industry best practice, and performance is measured and communicated
  • Development of training programs focusing to maintain quality control and operational excellence across the company

  • Quality Management System

    Actively participate and drive compliance to Invacare’s Quality Procedures as per its Quality System and participate in Invacare’s Continuous Improvement program, utilizing this program where appropriate to drive process improvement, waste elimination, time savings and cost reductions to :

  • Actively promote and encompass the principles of Continuous Improvement within your team’s day to day activities; and identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system
  • Sponsor and support projects directly and indirectly within your Department and across the Company;
  • Initiate actions or assist failure investigations to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformances relating to the product, process and quality system;
  • Maintain all procedures and processes for the purposes of quality accreditation as they apply to your responsibilities; and
  • Ensures consistent compliance to all company and departmental policies and procedures, and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements (National and International), including Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Medsafe New Zealand and Therapeutic Goods Administration for Australia.
  • Assist in internal audits to ensure company's quality system is effective
  • Assist with developing training for internal stakeholders
  • Supply Chain

  • Supports Supply Chain in the resolution of supplier-related issues
  • Work alongside Supply Chain, Sales, Customer Service, Marketing and Warehouse teams to establish and ensure quality control requirements are met and quality is not compromised
  • Work with Supply Chain Manager to identify process improvements, cost savings & overall business benefits
  • Workplace Health, Safety & Welfare

  • Ensure that Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare is a primary consideration in your job and company processes and guidelines are complied with to :
  • Understand and implement company H&S requirements that are applicable to your role and
  • Ensure that your team receive the appropriate H&S training; and
  • Report and manage corrections for incidents which endanger the environment or people.
