We are seeking a SHE & Security Officer to support and work proactively with Managers, Production Leadership Team (Supervisors and Leading Hands), staff and others to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of SHE (safety, health and well-being and environment) and security, ensuring programs and practices are embedded into our organization.

The Challenge

  • Operational Support and Compliance : Championing SHE and Occupational Health Excellence as well as Security, by leading by example and actively working with shop floor line managers and staff.
  • Collaborate with the Site Manager to develop the local SHE & Security strategic plan and drive and support implementation to ensure timely completion.
  • Actively contribute to risk minimization activities to ensure SHE and Security compliance with corporate requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure all procedures and work instructions for the job are workable from a SHE perspective.
  • Prepare, organize and support the delivery of the SHE training Plan including regulatory requirements, SHE Inductions, Contractor Inductions, Q-Pulse and Talent Suite e-learnings.
  • Support co-ordination of SHEQ Walks and Workplace Inspections schedule including maintaining database and close out actions.
  • Administration support and maintenance of security cards and security registers.
  • Maintain and support evaluation of Personal Protective Equipment to ensure availability and compliance.
  • Timely report and review of IRIS incidents and actions to ensure timely close out of actions.
  • Drive SHE and security incident investigations on site, to determine root cause(s), solutions and ensure close out of actions.
  • Completion of month end reporting inlcuding incidents (injuries, near misses).
  • Coordinate the annual industrial hygiene and annual health monitoring process.
  • Manage the communication within the site, learning from incidents received from Regional / Global DSM.
  • Support the SQM / RMQ and MOC process to ensure (CRA) Chemical Risk Assessments and relevant changes are assessed appropriately and in a timely manner as per management of change procedure.
  • Provide input to databases and SHE Systems such as : Safety Data Sheets, Chemical master database, IRIS, Unite, FIIX, Trackwise, Who’s on Location and maintain and manage these where relevant.
  • Manage and devise the agenda for, chair and formulate & distribute minutes for the SHE Committee meetings, ensuring all agreed action points are completed within deadlines.
  • Ensure six monthly environmental monitoring and reporting is conducted (CREDIT 360).
  • Participate in monthly regional meetings and when required, to report on relevant health & safety and security related matters.
  • Maintaining the behavior based safety program (e.g. SafeStart) by coaching, guiding, & role modeling
  • Act as the site Transport Safety Co-ordinator (TSC) to work with the regional transport safety network to ensure that the site complies to DSM Transport Safety Life Saving Rules
  • Provide advice and support to employees and management as required.
  • Be exemplary with his or her own SHEQ Behaviour and ensures the adherence of all staff and contractors.
  • Other tasks as required.
  • Be part the of the Site Emergency Response and Business Continuity Team and participate in the on-call schedule for ERBC.
  • Stop work if unsafe or unsecured in coordination with the Site Manager and / or the Production Manager
  • Prepare and issue various work permits.
  • Write / support / approve SOP’s, work instructions, procedures, best practices related to Health and Safety and security in the workplace.

    Knowledge of and experience of own discipline. In addition, knowledge and experience in :

  • Manufacturing processes and requirements
  • SHE, Food Safety, Auditing and Quality Systems requirements and Practices
  • Security practices
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Delivery and participation of projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
