    The opportunity

    We have a new opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join the team in Auckland. As a Senior Underwriter you will underwrite new business and renewals of high complexity and / or volume within set underwriting guidelines, authority levels and service standards.

    You will also manage key portfolios / accounts with intermediaries

    A day in the role may look like this

  • Actively manage renewal portfolio and new business targets
  • Underwrite complex risks in accordance with defined limits of authority, organisational policy and underwriting standards
  • Actively involved in the development of products and processes to meet growth objectives
  • Deliver timely decisions and problem solving solutions to customers and intermediaries
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, brokers and colleagues
  • Actively manage portfolios and strengthen relationships with all stakeholders to deliver business retention, growth and profitability targets
  • Monitor and communicate activity within your portfolio, brokers and competitors and report on opportunities and risks to improve results.
  • Demonstrate and share an understanding of the market and trends
  • Contribute to the development, mentoring and managing of Underwriters, Trainees and Assistant Underwriters
  • What do I need?

  • To be successful as a Senior Underwriter you will ideally have 5+ years’ experience in an Underwriting role, in addition to the following;
  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions
  • Working knowledge of risk management, portfolio management and underwriting
  • Level 3 or higher underwriting authority
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, specialist qualifications or equivalent
  • Strong established customer / broker relationships
  • Ability to negotiate and influence at a senior level within the insurance industry
