Orewa, AucklandOur School is an alternative to mainstream schooling. Our venue is 100% outdoors and provides nature-based learning for children in primary and middle school years.
We currently offer school programmes during term time as well as holiday clubs. We are soon expanding to offer after-school programmes, weekend events and more.
Tasks and duties for this job include : Setting up area and daily activities Working with other staff to plan and prepare activities (specific training given)Facilitate activitiesLead gamesPromote play as a platform for authentic and meaningful learningFacilitate rich conversations and discussions with childrenFoster curiosity and a sense of wonder and awePromote environmental custodianship / kaitiakiSupervise children, develop an authentic relationship and mentor themSupport children to develop friendships and positive social interactions with one anotherFeeding farm animalsWorking on technology projects with childrenSupervising beach / forest play & expeditionsBushcraft / fire building / cooking (specific training given)Teach children safe tool use (specific training given)Support children to develop resilience, risk-

4pm, Other casual days are required and can be flexible. These will be rostered at different times depending on availability.
As after-school and weekend programmes begin to increase, further days and hours will be offered to current staff before we seek additional employees.
We are looking for people who genuinely love kids. You need to be kind, empathetic, fun and enjoy nature.It is important that you have initiative and a great work ethic and are open to continually developing new skills.
English communication skills is also required.Experience working with children essential. Open mind and empathy for children from a range of backgrounds.
Fun, playful and creative desirable. Initiative, hard-working and energetic as it can be tiring being outdoors all day.First Aid certificate helpful, Any outdoor skills for example sailing, climbing, kayaking, surfing would be beneficial.
This role would suit anyone with an interest in Developmental Psychology, Teaching, Neuroscience, Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, Paedriatrics, Play Therapy, Outdoor Education.
