Full-time-Fixed Term (December 2020)

Are you interested in being involved in aleading edge full time course of study that places emphasis on skills requiredfor a wide range of building construction tasks and delivering a programme thatis both theory and practice based?

Are you interested in working with tauira(students) whilst they build a re-locatable house as part of the programme?

If so, and you have proven successfulexperience in the building industry, you may be the person we are looking for.

The overarching objective of the programme isto give tauira the opportunity to experience trade education and in particularthat of carpentry.

The programme is taught in a unique Māori learningenvironment that is based on the Māori principles of whanaungatanga (familyrelationships), rangatiratanga (leadership), tūhonohono (engagement) andmauitanga (innovation).

Theprogramme teaches students about :

  • Health & Safety requirements;
  • Operating power, portable and handtools used in the construction process;
  • The functions of building, legislationand compliance;
  • The Building Act; and
  • Building a single level,timber-framed, relocatable house as part of a team.
  • Theideal candidate for this position will hold :

  • a Diploma Level 5 qualification inCarpentry;
  • an LBP (Licenced BuildingPractitioner) and maintain the LBP licence;
  • a clean Full NZ Drivers’ Licence
  • Ideally,the successful candidate will have or be able to gain :

  • a current first aid certificate;
  • a National Certificate in Adult TertiaryTeaching Level 5 or equivalent;
  • Experience

  • A minimum of 2 year’s experience incarpentry
  • A minimum of 2 year’s experience inteaching adults
  • Experience working with Māori andTangata Pasifika people
  • You will also need to have experience in theindustry related sector, work placement, work skill development or careerplanning and development;
  • as well as teaching experience and experience workingwith Māori and Pacific Island people.
