He angitūtanga : The opportunity

As a Park Ranger, you will be responsible for creating a safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experience in the regional parks.

All the while conserving and protecting natural and cultural heritage resources.

We currently have 2 opportunities available for Park Rangers. One fixed term full time until 2023 and one permanent full-time.

These roles are based from Wenderholm Regional Park and work across our Northern Regional Park network. These roles are part of a passionate team who look after these iconic Auckland landscapes and spaces.

You will work to support visitor experience, volunteer groups, events, asset maintenance, farming and educational programmes that promote and protect the significant natural characteristics of the park.

You will be involved with conservation efforts including pest control, re-vegetation, and threatened species management programmes across all our parks including Shakespear and Tawharanui Open Sanctuaries.

To be successful in this role you’ll have a passion for the natural environment and connecting people with nature. You will be a strong communicator and thrive on being able to plan and prioritise your own workday while still being an integral part of a tight knit team.

We are looking for a team player with a can do attitude and flexibility to tackle the diverse nature of the role. In this role you will need to be able to adapt to unexpected priorities when they arise.

Experience in parks, recreation and / or conservation land management is highly desirable while practical skills and experience with tools and machinery is a must.

We are looking for a motivated, people orientated person to join the Northern Sector ranger team, who can add value and contribute to a committed team.

You will need to be physically fit as the work is across a variety of terrain and have proven practical skills.

Experience in a ranger role or similar, with a strong background in recreation, conservation and asset management. Parks and / or conservation land management qualification(s) or similar is preferred along with other appropriate licences to support public safety and environmental protection.

A current NZ full driver's licence is required for this position.

Although based from Wenderholm Regional Park, you will be required to work throughout the Northern Sector parks network on a day to day basis and work weekends and public holidays on a roster system.

You will also be part of the regional parks Search and Rescue team.
