Provide field and technical support working at our research dairy farm in Springston.

Mō te tūnga The role

We are seeking a motivated Research Technician to provide field and technical support for research deliverables within the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Lincoln University.

Working in a team on site at one of our dairy farms, you will be supporting research, data collection and management of pastures and animals.

Some tasks of the role include :

  • Contribute to and support research programmes, providing technical expertise, data analysis and reporting
  • Maintain and manage the laboratory work areas and equipment
  • Assist with training and supervision of new staff and students
  • General administration, maintaining records, making sure reporting deadlines are met, prepare analytical data
  • Provide technical assistance to students and research programmes, including commercial activities
  • This is a permanent, full-time role working 40 hours per week at Ashley Dene Research and Development Station in Springston.

    Most of the training will be provided, but to be successful in this role, the following attributes will be an advantage :

  • A bachelor's degree in agriculture and / or farm management, or corresponding work experience in a Research Organisation (preferred)
  • Experience in animal handling and an understanding of the NZ code of Animal Welfare
  • Knowledge of pasture management and plant species
  • Experience with the procedures involved with the efficient running of field trials, including pasture studies and grazing studies
  • Competence with data input and manipulation using a variety of computer software packages
