    Our Urban Planning and Design group provides strategic leadership on urban planning, provides best practice urban design and planning advice, leads the management of Kāinga Ora's large scale strategic partnerships and works closely with place based groups, iwi, local and central government agencies and the private sector to facilitate urban development opportunities.

    Ko tā mātou mahi Our Role

    As part of our exciting growth we are now looking to welcome graduate and intermediate level Urban Designers to be based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

    As an Urban Designer you will provide urban design advice and support for the delivery of all aspects of Kāinga Ora's work that involve an urban design component.

    You will work collaboratively in project groups and delivery teams across the organisation to ensure quality urban design outcomes are achieved in all Kāinga Ora's developments.

    Day-to-day a key focus of your role will be the preparation of spatial feasibility studies and design briefs, and the production and implementation of masterplans.

    Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu - What you will bring

    Whether you already have a few years' experience as an urban designer, or are just starting out in your career, in addition to your qualification in Urban Design, Architecture or Urban Planning (or current study towards an urban design qualification), as our ideal candidate for this exciting role you will bring intrinsic motivation, positivity, design talent and a keen desire to learn.

    You will also demonstrate :

  • Strong research, evaluation and technical writing skills
  • Experience in the preparation of graphic material (quick hand-sketches, concept drawings, plans etc)
  • Sound computer literacy in a Microsoft Windows environment, with good skills in other relevant software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Excellent organisational skills - able to prioritise and schedule work to meet deadlines and maintain quality
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • A passion for working to create "sustainable, well-functioning urban environments".
