Job Description

Our Macraes Laboratory team is seeking a replacement Team Leader to assist the Supervisors and Laboratory Manager with the operations of our growing Macraes Flat Laboratory business.

Team Leader

This role has come about due to internal career progression within SGS of the current Team Leader.

The Team Leader is one of four, with the role reporting directly to the Laboratory Supervisor & QHSE Manager. The focus is to assist and lead the team of approximately 10 people involved in the sample preparation, fire assay and laboratory testing of gold and environmental samples.

Team Leaders play a vital role assisting with the efficient running and management of overall operations, with a focus on producing timely, quality, and accurate analysis results from their team.

This means working closely with the team and others, co-ordinating with various people and departments to ensure the team follow safely and efficiently our comprehensive quality and health and safety systems.

For success, this role not only requires laboratory technical knowledge and operational experience, but also good communication skills, good teamwork and leadership skills and abilities.

You need to be pro-active, good at problem solving and for all leadership roles have good communication and interpersonal skills.


If you are keen to be a Team Leader and have the below qualities and experience we are interested to hear from you :

  • Three year’s experience in general laboratory environment.
  • Experience with the analytical requirements of the New Zealand Minerals industry.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related science subject would be advantageous.
  • Experience working with strict health and safety requirements, quality control and compliance and various operational policies and procedures.
  • Drive, energy, and enthusiasm.
