    Their mission is to deliver products that provide yield and value to their customers, and more tasty and healthy vegetables to the consumer.

    There currently exists an opportunity to join their Vegetable R&D Division, as Head of their NZ Testing and Operations. This is an exciting role that will see you, leading a small team, testing crops under development and managing operations at their Pukekohe Station.

    This facility is currently focused on the development and testing of Onion hybrids.

    The Pukekohe Station was recently developed and is well set up with excellent infrastructure and equipment on site, it is also the base for the Commercial Operations teams giving you exposure to the broader business, as well interfacing with numerous local growers.

    You'll ideally have come from the commercial growing industry, ideally with onions experience but we'll also consider applicants with experience in other crops.

    The role is a blend of R&D and Operations with more of a slant to operations so you'll need to be able to demonstrate the practical and operational skills to grow onions and / or other crops.

    You'll need to be familiar with industry best practices including land preparation, planting and harvesting, and also be familiar with the use and maintenance of all associated equipment.

    You'll thrive on working in a fast paced and dynamic team environment, developing plans for and juggling multiple projects and also be comfortable analysing and interpreting data.

    As part of a global business you'll also get the opportunity to work closely with other crop breeding teams, crop strategy leads and the Regional Head of R&D to develop strategy and track metrics for collaborative breeding in vegetable crops.

    Also, as part of the broader operations leadership responsibilities you will ensure that the research station remains compliant with all Bayer and National HSE, QMS, regulatory and compliance requirements.

    To be considered for this opportunity you will ideally have :

  • A tertiary qualification in horticulture
  • Demonstrable experience in horticulture operations
  • Experience with onions or similar large scale open-field growing
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative working style
