General Manager Sustainability, Environment and Quality

One of New Zealand’s premier sustainability mandates

Flexible location subject to regular national travel

This well known New Zealand company has a multi-billion balance sheet with a network of assets throughout New Zealand. Given its scale and prominence, the company plays a key role in driving sustainable practices within its industry and beyond.

The appointee will assist the company to further develop sustainable practices which will lower their environmental impact whilst delivering quality outputs to customers.

The appointee will partner with other members of the executive team, particularly Business Unit leaders, to help them refine their practices and processes to deliver outcomes in both a sustainable and profitable manner.

In conjunction with other relevant parties, the appointee will also be responsible for creating and leading the delivery of an industry leading sustainability and environmental roadmap.

There is a clear expectation within the Board and from the Chief Executive that the company will be an exemplar in terms of genuinely uplifting SE&Q outcomes within its sector and other analogous industries.

The GM SE&Q will lead a geographically dispersed team of circa 10 staff. The appointee could be based in any major New Zealand location which facilitates an easy commute, although will need to spend time in company’s head office and around its national network of sites.

For this key executive role, we seek expressions of interest from candidates who have :

Experience operating as a senior executive in a Sustainability and Environmental role within a large organisation. Appropriate environments could include the primary sector, energy and utilities, manufacturing, local or central government, consultancy settings et al.

Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills. The appointee will be a sophisticated business partner with a high level of executive presence and credibility.

Proven track record of creating engaged teams which deliver high levels of performance.

Demonstrated ability to contribute to the strategic debate on Sustainability, Environmental, Quality and whole of business’ matters.

A sound working knowledge of relevant legal and policy frameworks (e.g. sustainability, environmental, quality,) ideally combined with expertise in quality management and risk management systems.

Ideally) a Track record of leading change initiatives at an organisational or industry level.

Ideally) familiarity with and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

A tertiary qualified in a related discipline (preferred).
