The core function of the role is to lead a team of experience Laboratory Analysts in our busy Microbiology laboratory based in Penrose, Auckland.
Key duties may include : -
To ensure test samples are reported without error, and within specified time requirements
To maintain good lab practice at all times and ensure the highest quality service to our customers, including ensuring staff are fully trained in their activities
To ensure the lab and equipment in a good physical condition at all times
To maintain a positive, professional and safe working environment, being mindful of Eurofins' Health and Safety procedures
To work on continuous improvement initiatives
To get the best out of the team by providing oversight, problem-solving skills and support to the staff as needed.
To sign off reports as an IANZ KTP / Signatory for the appropriate discipline.
To oversee and complete new method verification as required
To oversee and complete customer investigations as required
Tertiary qualifications in science or science related field
Minimum of five years of experience in a commercial Microbiology laboratory environment is required, more is desirable.
Minimum of one year in a leadership role (preferably in a scientific production or technical area), is desirable.
Experience working as a part of a large team is desired, as we are seeking a staff member to step directly into this leadership role.
Strong practical and technical / theoretical knowledge of standard microbiological test methodologies is required.
Technical training is available for the specifics of the testing, LIMS usage, etc. but we are seeking an experienced scientist who can quickly adapt to our systems.
Experience with continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean management is an advantage.
Able to take initiative, and work in a fair and responsible way
Reliable and flexible, with the ability to lead staff members working a range of shifts.
Strong leadership skills that encourage team members to continuously improve themselves and the production process.
Good time management skills are a must, in order to keep up with the pace of a commercial laboratory production environment

This role is a great fit for an experienced Microbiologist who is keen to move in people management, this role is also a stepping stone to full laboratory management.
