    The Business Intelligence Services team at Waka Kotahi builds business intelligence and reporting solutions to provide data and insights to operational and management teams as well to the New Zealand Public.

    Our solutions help the organisation operate more efficiently and provide evidence for key decisions that affect New Zealanders every day.

    The Manager, Business Intelligence Analysis is responsible for guiding and leading a team of 5 data focused Business Analysts.

    They carry out the business analysis work, including requirements gathering of business requirements from users and designing data and reporting solutions that meet those requirements.

    The Manager, Business Intelligence Analysis manages :

  • the people in the team
  • standardised business processes for the BA team
  • work scheduling and allocating the work across the team to manage current and backlog workloads
  • capacity, based on assessments of work and project requests
  • resources to support the workload and requests
  • the relationships across the organisation and into the adjacent teams, educating the customer about the process to build and support their data and reporting requirements, and managing their expectations on timeframes and cost
  • With a BA background yourself, you will be able to showcase your analytical skills by ensuring that your team provides fit-for-purpose business analysis services to projects and initiatives, tailoring what is delivered and how it's delivered to meet business needs.

    Your expertise will be in consulting with and managing the relevant stakeholders through the process to identify their needs and ensure that appropriate solutions are identified and assessed.

    Your strong communication skills will enable you to work productively with non-technical business people, and to write high quality report specifications that communicate their needs clearly to technical personnel.

    To be successful in this role, you will bring your :

  • people management experience, or the ability and desire to step into a people management role
  • engagement and consultative skills first and foremost, with strong relationship management skills and the ability to build trust
  • BA background, ideally within a business intelligence and reporting environment
  • experience in BI toolsets and visual analytics tools as this will be an important aspect to your guidance to the team when they require your assistance
  • experience developing, leading and mentoring a team or small group of Business Analysts, or demonstrate a readiness to do so
  • experience in updating and maintaining standardised business analysis processes and artefacts
  • significant and proven experience in business analysis with advanced analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate and resolve highly complex issues, translating complex ideas into audience appropriate language
  • the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • business process design and improvement - modelling and / or simulating business processes in tools to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities
  • sufficient SQL skills to navigate large and sometimes complex data sets, if required
  • knowledge of and experience with Agile delivery methods
