  • Nationally Advertised Vacancy About the roleThe National Intelligence Centre (NIC) supports New Zealand Police leaders and officers to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing.
  • Our mahi is used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, and facilitate evidence-based action and prevention.

    The NIC is recruiting Intelligence Analysts (Tactical) who will be based in District Intelligence Groups throughout the country.

    While you will work for the NIC, you will be located within one of our District Intelligence units in Tamaki Makaurau, Kerikeri, Waikato, Tasman, Canterbury, Eastern, Central, Southern and Wellington.

    Our Intelligence Analysts (Tactical) will work to support the Police Tactical Response Model (TRM). No day will be the same in this role.

    You will provide Tactical Intelligence that is timely, accurate, clear, and relevant.Your work will support the Special Tactics Group (STG) and Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) as well as other frontline operational areas.

    The analysis you provide will be used to disrupt the criminal environment, facilitate arrests, assist with surveillance operations, target offenders, and gather evidence.

    This is a high trust environment and one which needs you to be flexible in relation to where and when you may be required to work.

  • The environment can be fast paced and as such you need to be adaptable.To succeed in this role, you need to be comfortable and confident when talking to others and willing to build your understanding of policing and Intelligence.

    You will need to work with people from a wide range of internal and external workgroups and agencies. Communication is key as you will be resenting analysis through written reporting and verbal briefings to a range of audiences.

    Time will not always be your friend. It would be advantageous but not essential - if you had some knowledge of Geospatial systems, radio communications and the ability to drive both manual and automatic vehicles. Key Accountabilities :

  • Apply analytical thinking skills and crime science theory to the analysis of crime issues.
  • Able to recognise problems, distil and define the pertinent issues, and determine and propose effective solutions.
  • Collaborate on projects and group analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (accurate and concise)
  • Contribute to core Intelligence reporting and deliverables of the Group.
  • Critical thinking able to provide objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement.
  • Champion diverse worldviews, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.
  • Able to use technology but equally adapt to non-technical solutions in the field.You must be able to cope with the nature of the work we undertake, and the organisational challenges presented in police intelligence.

Special Requirements

  • New Zealand citizenship, or a permanent New Zealand resident.
  • Able to deploy to another location at short notice.
  • Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment.
  • Hold a full driver license or be able to complete early in employment
  • Able to obtain and maintain an appropriate Top Secret National Security clearance (www.protectivesecurity.govt.nz / eligibility-tool) Application Process Initial applications and CVs will be assessed by the panel.

    Candidates who progress to interview will complete further writing and scenario assessments to assess technical competence and may also be asked to complete psychometric testing including personality and cognitive reasoning assessments.
