We are looking an exceptional individual to fill the position of Director of the Spaces & Places as part of the Community Services group at Tauranga City Council.
The Community Services group comprises the City Events, Libraries, Emergency Management, CCO Relationships and Governance, Community Development, Baycourt Community and Arts Centre teams, and the Spaces & Places division.
The Spaces & Places division are responsible for the development and ongoing operation of Tauranga city's parks and recreation assets, the design and development of key urban space projects, and the delivery of community amenity capital projects for our rapidly growing city.
The role of Director is a senior leadership position within the organisation, providing strategic leadership and direction, and is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of a wide programme of community-focused activity, including the delivery of a large capital programme.
The Director of Spaces & Places will make an important contribution to Council, supporting its role to deliver great outcomes for the Tauranga community.
This position demands strong and effective leadership of the Spaces & Places division and will need to navigate and excel in the local and central government political environment.
With a staff of approximately 35, this role is responsible for providing leadership, support and development for your direct reports through communicating a clear and consistent direction.
Your team will share your expectation of high performance and effectively lead your managers to develop and lead their teams to deliver agreed programmes, services and community outcomes.
Developing and establishing relationships is crucial to the success of this position; successfully engaging with key internal and external stakeholders with the Mayor, Elected Members, CE, the Executive, Senior Leadership Group and the Community Services Lead Team, Tangata Whenua, Iwi, other councils, central government, agencies, community and relevant sector organisations.
