The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is looking for a Principal Advisor, Health and Safety based in Wellington. Who can use their influenceing skills and exeptional communication skills to contribute to ensuring best practice health and safety across a large, complex organisation.

As a Principal Advisor, you will be a well-recognised source of health and safety information and expertise for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) at the strategic and operational level.

You will play a significant role in helping the NZDF Executive and management to understand the wider picture of good health and safety practice and bringing that to life.

You will provide insight, solutions and technical expertise to the NZDF focussed on specific health and safety needs and initiatives, often acting as a critical link with other NZDF health and safety professionals

The level of engagement is variable and will focus on more complex health and safety organisational needs, such as critical risk management, safety culture and assurance. This could include :

  • Supporting the implementation of the NZDF’s Safety Management System;
  • Monitoring and reviewing emerging safety issues and safety risks to support continuous improvement;
  • Acting as a conduit for workplace health and safety issues throughout the organisation; and
  • Supporting the requirements of worker engagement and participation in health and safety and advocating for mechanisms for safe systems of work at the strategic level.
  • To be successful in this role you will bring a solid understanding of health and safety, with previous experience working in an advisory role.

    You will have demonstrable problem solving skills with the ability to think strategically and laterally to make recommendations and relate to a variety of stakeholders, adapting to the relevant context and understanding.
