The Catchment Operations Manager is responsible for providing effective leadership and operational oversight of our Catchment Operations team to deliver an integrated programme of work.

In short, you will be responsible for managing multiple projects ensuring these are delivered on time, within budget and to specification across the Southland region.

Skilled in developing confidence and strong relationships, you will be working with a range of external and internal stakeholders including Councillors and committee members, iwi, ratepayers, landowners, contractors and various government agencies.

As part of a highly effective leadership team, you will also have a strong focus on developing our leaders which will require you to understand and improve workflow management, provide clear direction, guidance, support and mentoring to the team.

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and attributes :

  • Broad general management skills including people leadership, business acumen, documented business achievements, and financial management.
  • Proven project management experience (including planning, budgeting and reporting).
  • Effective verbal communication skills, including the confidence to address groups of varying size
  • Strategic and tactical thinking / planning skills.
  • Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including bi cultural sensitivity).
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders, particularly in the rural sector.
  • Sound report writing and auditing skills.
  • A tertiary qualification in natural resources management, river engineering or project management.
