We have senior commercial advisor opportunities available in our Housing Supply team. The team contributes to the effective delivery of two work streams : Transitional Housing and Public Housing Supply.

Our teams are based in our Wellington and Auckland based offices.

The Housing Supply team works in collaboration with teams across the Ministry as well as the wider housing sector and iwi providers to deliver responsive housing solutions.

The Senior Commercial Advisor is responsible for :

  • Managing strategic relationships across the housing sector including transitional and community housing providers, Kāinga Ora, developers and investors and financial institutions
  • Working closely with service providers and related support services, such as : Māori providers, iwi and hāpu groupsMSD, Te Puni Kokiri and Kāinga Ora regional staff, particularly regional management teamsLocal government and agencies, particularly Councils, DHB's and Corrections staff
  • Senior Commercial Advisors will have an in-depth understanding of Community Housing Providers (CHP's), Transitional Housing Providers (THP's), and wider sector trends and take into consideration how new supply of housing aligns with HUD strategic direction and demand, with respect to location, typology, configuration, place-based initiatives and Māori and Iwi Housing Innovation (MAIHI) principles.

    You will also be responsible for reviewing the financial feasibility of projects and mitigate the commercial, legislative and risks associated with Transitional and Public Housing Supply activities.

    About you Mōu

    Given the broad remit of both positions you may come from a social sector, Māori or iwi housing provider, commercial development, financial monitoring, urban design and spatial planning, or property and evaluation background.

    As a Senior Commercial Advisor you will bring :

  • Experience of working in the social sector, community housing, health sector and Māori providers, iwi and hāpu groups
  • Strong commercial acumen relative to property and / or asset development / management
  • Sound understanding of differing Lease documentation, legal vocabulary, and the Residential Tenancies Act.
  • Knowledge of the property and housing sector, including key operatives and trends
  • Understanding, relevant experience or qualifications in urban design principles and processes
  • Working knowledge of the supply chain and procurement lifecycle and how to develop strategy to leverage opportunities at each stage
  • Proven ability in critical thinking, analysis, and the development of business processes
  • Understanding, experience, or qualifications in data management preferably financial monitoring
  • Pre-requisites

  • Must have the right to live and work in New Zealand
  • Must be able to obtain relevant checks and clearances as / if required (e.g. security clearance)
  • An interest and understanding of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga would be highly beneficial.
