Environment Canterbury collects and maintains vast quantities of data. These datasets are used to help understand over time what is happening in our environment by our scientists, other government agencies and the public.
ECan have also signed up to the open and transparent government programme, of which open data is one of the key pillars.
ECan wish to make as much of its data as possible available freely to the public to underpin innovation and economic development across the region.
Given the importance of data we have set up a network of data stewards embedded throughout the organisation ensuring good data governance.
We require a Lead Data Steward to join our Enterprise Data and BI team to help further develop and maintain the data governance framework.
Working closely with the subject matter experts and technical staff you will coordinate and lead a Data Community of Practice within the organisation in support of the data governance framework.
You will have strong passion for learning and making continuous improvements to existing processes.
You will develop trusted relationships with business users at all levels of the organisation, by following through on commitments and implementing regular data maturity audits.
You will have at least 3 years’ experience in data management and stewardship and a high standard of communications skills.
