    Otago RegionalCouncil manages the land, air and waterresources, and providesflood and naturalhazard protection andresponse on behalf of communities across Central Otago, Clutha, Waitaki,Queenstown Lakes and Dunedin.

    Climate change impacts,pressure on criticalinfrastructure, and Otago’scomplex river systems from mountain headwaters tocoastal mouths, creates a challenging environment that requires a forward-thinking approach.

    That’s where you come in. We’re lookingfor an Environmental, Ecology or Natural Resources Engineering professional to lead a team of three and steer effectivecatchment, flood risk and river management.

    The Challenge :

    Provide direction and leadership to asmall team who focus on river management operational, flood risk / response management and river morphology and riparian strategiesthroughout Otago.

  • Lead and oversee flood event readiness; provision of technical advice for maintenance & operations, projectdelivery, strategic planning and consenting;
  • mapping for flood risk, rivers, water courses; tender processes andmanagement of contractors and consultants.

  • Instil an environmental focus and deliversolutions that encourage best environmental outcomes.
  • Form collaborative working relationships withother teams within Council, Territorial Authorities and other Regional Councils, and landowners that benefitfrom flood management and rivercontrol.
  • Enable your team to be agile and high performing,and facilitate professional development and continuous improvement, best practice.
  • Your Skills :

  • A tertiaryqualification in Environmental, Ecology or Natural Resources Engineering.
  • 7+ years’ experience in a RiverManagement or related environmental role.
  • Have experience in team leadership, project and contracts management.
  • Be progressive in environmental values.
  • A tactful, diplomatic coaching style of leadership, strong customer focus, and high professional standards and initiative.
