We have a fulltime, permanent position available for an experienced Senior Media Advisor in our Wellington-based media team.
The work we do here impacts everyone in New Zealand, and we run a flexible, relaxed and high-quality media operation. About the role Day to day you’ll be responding to media queries, updating the IRD news website and contributing to all aspects of the media team’s work.
It is a small team of three (including you) and our proactive release material goes directly to mainstream media and to a range of third parties such as tax agents and industry groups.
In addition to turning reactive media into positive coverage, there will be the opportunity to proactively seek out and develop newsworthy stories from within IR.
This is a senior role, and we want a safe and trusted pair of hands to engage with reporters and to give sound advice and guidance to IR’s senior leaders.
What we’re looking for Proven experience with the news media - a journalism background, experience in government agency media work and / or time as a parliamentary press secretary are all ideal for this role The ability to recognise a good story, and know how and when to act on this knowledge Experience in addressing different audiences to elicit the best response Demonstrable experience in crafting press releases, ideally with some exposure to writing for social media too Organisational savvy, awareness of the wider news and political environment, and strong risk radar The ability to comfortably engage with senior leaders, building confidence and trust Interested?
