About the Charitable Trust SCNZ seeks to be the preferred provider of pastoral care and mentoring for sports teams and organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand We recognise the need for better care for the wellbeing of athletes at all levels of sport and are responding to this We support the mental emotional and spiritual wellbeing of athletes team and club officials and their families Our kaupapa is to provide such pastoral care in a holistic manner without judgement or prejudice by invitation and free of charge We are a relatively young charity 2013 with 40 sports chaplains serving with elite through to grassroots sport in a variety of codes across the country Our vision is to grow this network to over 1000 chaplains over the next decade We are a Christian charity and faith based ministry All our chaplains and some of our regional leaders area coordinators are volunteers and our paid staff raise 50 of their salary through personal supporters such as friends family and churches About the role This role is to grow a team of volunteer sports chaplains primarily on the North Shore of Auckland by identifying training appointing and guiding them to work within clubs teams or school sports team contexts from grassroots to elite level and across all codes of sport The role requires you to create and care for a team of volunteer sports chaplains You will be responsible to manage and administer your team including keeping accurate dbase records providing regular communication and ongoing professional development opportunities fo rthem You will be able to build relationships with and relate to a wide range of people including leaders of churches across the denominational spectrum as well as with leaders across the spectrum of sports The role requires you to have a firm grasp of the Christian faith and to be able to communicate this along with the values of our charity with integrity authenticity and respect to people of all backgrounds worldview and belief systems You do not have to be an athlete yourself to fulfil this role but an affinity for sports people and an awareness of the stresses and difficulties they face is necessary Benefits and perks Auckland is a great place to live and work with its huge variety and vibrancy of life ethnicity as well as abundant recreational and sporting opportunities There are shopping malls parks and beaches on the doorstep to help with work life balance and the North Shore is renown for educational excellence Working with the SCNZ team means you are part of a group of passionate people who care for others and want to make a real difference in their life We are committed to working together with people of good will to grow this vision and positively impact the sporting community of our nation Skills and experience Skills and competencies include People oriented skillsOrganisational and time management skillsPastoral care skills and experienceAbility to form and maintain a support team for financial and prayer partnershipAble to work at a high level with minimal supervisionStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong listening skillsComputer literacy Leadership experience and experience in creating and managing a team of volunteers would be necessary
