Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral (MidCentral) provides healthcare services to over 180,000 people across the Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua regions.

With a large hospital campus at Palmerston North, the health care provider also provides key health care and support services to neighbouring communities.

To comply with the current Health Order, MidCentral requires ALL its employees to be fully vaccinated (and boosted as applicable) against COVID-19.

We will not accept applications that do not meet this criteria.

MidCentral actively seeks Māori into our workforce to reflect the community we serve.

This is an exciting new opportunity for someone who has experience in health promotion, primary health or public health to join the MidCentral National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) team.

The MidCentral NBSP is one of the providers for the Ministry of Health's national programme. This screening programme is for eligible people aged 60 to 74 with no bowel symptoms.

The MidCentral NBSP covers the MidCentral region of Palmerston North, Manawatū, Tararua, Horowhenua and Ōtaki.

The Role of the Health Promoter in Bowel Screening is to support the increased participation and reduction of inequities in coverage for priority people, (who are Māori, Pasifika, and live within Deprivation nine and ten in the MidCentral region) with a focus on eligible Māori and their whānau and Pasifika people.

To do this role they will work with the Equity Lead for Bowel Screening and build and maintain effective relationships with the Iwi and Māori health providers in the MidCentral region and the THINK Hauora Pasifika Health Service to help support a high-quality bowel screening service.

This will include completing a co-ordinated agreed programme of promotion, engagement, participation and retention of eligible Māori and Pasifika into the NBSP programme.

This role is part of the Bowel Screening multidisciplinary team and will be supported by Te Uru Mātai Matengau (Cancer, Screening, Treatment and Support Cluster) and Pae Ora Paiaka Whaiora (Māori Health Directorate).

The role will be based at Breast Screening Coast to Coast (BSCC).

The role is full time (1.0 FTE) and temporary (two year) position. The hours will be flexible, between Monday to Friday with some weekend work required.

Travel within the MidCentral region is required (overnight visits are possible but unlikely).
