The role Mō te tūngaThe Principal Design Advisor Māori will support the Pouwhakahaere, Senior Manager by providing thought leadership to enable co-design with Māori partners and organisations.

Stats NZ is in an evolving change environment given the impacts of COVID-19 on all aspects of NZ society and the increasing effects of Climate Change.

The new terrain we are navigating requires co-design with iwi and Māori to ensure they have the data they need to make decisions.

A strategic approach to transformational change is required, in order to understand what we do, how we do it, and who we do it for.

This is a strategic role that will assist, enable and facilitate the organisation’s analysis and understanding of how to work together with Māori as a Tiriti o Waitangi partner to serve their needs and aspirations.

About you MōuTo succeed in this role, you will have : Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated experience working effectively with Māori to achieve their aspirations, (Extensive working knowledge of a broad range of processes related to the operation of the public sector and government (may include local government of a large city).

Proven experience in leading co-design with Māori and significant business transformationAn excellent understanding and commitment to design and delivery which demonstrates understanding of Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori.

Strong ability to operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting and proven understanding of and commitment to the principles of the Treaty of WaitangiDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers and manage stakeholder relationships at a senior level.

Excellent ability to use persuasive, influencing and conflict management skills to resolve critical issues in high visibility forums.

Excellent written communication skills delivering communications in plain English which are clear, concise and logical.Knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and Māori communication.

Understanding of the history of Aotearoa New Zealand and an understanding and appreciation of the Treaty of Waitangi in national and regional affairs.

Ability to relate well to others and to build strong and durable relationships.Knowledge in Data Analysis and Delivering Data Value for human consumption is advantageous.

This role will require a vaild NZ Drivers License and will include regular travel within New ZealandWhat’s in it for you?
