    As a Public Health Service, we are undergoing an exciting transformational change working collaboratively with our partners and using health in all policies approaches, addressing the determinants of health, reducing inequities and improving the health and wellbeing of our southern communities where they live, learn, work and play.

    We are committed to the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and actively engaging with our Treaty partner Kāi Tahu, the wider Māori community and stakeholders.

    As part of the service change, we have a created a new role Pou Whakatere which is part of the new service leadership team.

    About you

    As Pou Whakatere, you will bring your strategic thinking and ability to enable transformational change to the role. You will be able to analyse and develop and drive strategic approaches within the service to embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and an equity focus in all our programmes to improve the health and wellbeing of Māori and their whānau.

    Your relationships with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, its constituent papatipu rūnaka and key Māori stakeholders will be critical to enable the service to develop strategic collaborative relationships.

    You will be competent in Te Tikaka me ōna kawa o Kāi Tahu and Te Reo Māori.

    Working with the Chief Māori Health Strategy and Improvement Officer you will develop a recruitment strategy and workforce development plan to actively improve cultural safety practices of public health staff and increase Māori workforce within the service.

    You will have a relevant tertiary qualification in public health and be experienced in programme planning methodology and evaluation to demonstrate the impact and outcomes of our work.

    You will be highly motivated, innovative and able to work independently. You will be an excellent communicator, both verbal and written, have good facilitation skills and an ability to prepare strategic reports and plans.

    You will be skilled at using the Microsoft suite and MS Teams.

    Due to the ongoing service wide Public Health Covid19 response, a proven ability to work under pressure is essential.

    Travel around the district will be required; a full driver’s licence is essential.
