This role will primarily support the DOC Community Fund.

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is the central government agency charged with managing New Zealand's natural, historic and cultural heritage on behalf of all New Zealanders.

We are looking for a highly motivated Funds Advisor to join our Funds team. The Funds team is focussed on making a positive difference to conservation by managing investments from the DOC Community Fund and Nature Heritage Fund.

This role will primarily support the DOC Community Fund and involve building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including community groups, private landowners, and DOC operational staff.

A significant part of the role involves improving funding processes, negotiating deeds of grant and assessing claims for payment.

At any one time our small team manages a portfolio of over three hundred different projects. You will therefore need to have strong organisational skills and an attention to detail.

Data analysis skills would also be a preference.

Our work is fast-paced, so you will need to enjoy being responsive, flexible to changing priorities, and tackling tricky challenges.

You will be able to demonstrate :

  • strong customer engagement skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people
  • natural curiosity paired with excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • agility and the ability to think quickly and manage ambiguity
  • an ability to identify solutions and improve processes
  • some leadership experience including the ability to inspire, influence and build the capability of others
  • experience or understanding of grant funding
  • ability to support a positive team culture
  • a strong interest in conservation
  • The Department recently received the Randstad Award for the most attractive employer in the public sector for the third year running.

DOC also offers excellent training and development opportunities, and flexible working hours.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
