Job Description

We are currently seeking multiple Laboratory Assistants to join our Auckland Laboratory. These roles will be permanent full-time, working one of the following shifts : Monday to Friday afternoon shift, Sunday to Thursday morning shift, or Tuesday to Saturday morning shift.

The main function of the roles we have to fill are to assist in the daily operation of our laboratories by performing manual handling and labouring tasks.

The successful applicants will be working mainly in the Microbiology Wash-up area and the Agriculture sample grinding area.

Tasks that will be performed include but not limited to :

  • Disposing of samples
  • Loading and unloading autoclaves / sterilizers
  • Washing and cleaning laboratory glassware, buckets, and utensils
  • Packing items to be sterilised
  • Grinding soil samples for analysis
  • Racking test tubes for media production
  • These tasks all support the laboratory in meeting our quality and regulatory requirements, and must be performed in accordance with the relevant procedures.


  • As this position is for assistant tasks only, no qualification is required. We are seeking people who are comfortable carrying out manual tasks on an ongoing basis.
  • As these are permanent position, we are not looking for people who wish to move into a technician / scientific role.

    Experience :

  • Practical knowledge of basic food hygiene and cleaning skills, handling of glassware, handling of large machinery, and experience working as a part of a large team are all desirable, but can be trained on the job.
  • Previous laboratory assistant or cleaning work is also an advantage.
  • Attributes :

  • Physically fit and strong enough to lift and carry items for a full shift
  • Comfortable working in cleaning zones, with strong smells and handling dirty material.
  • Attention to detail while performing routine or repetitive tasks
  • Reliable and flexible, with the ability to work to a rostered shift that may include morning / evening shifts, or at least one weekend day per week.
  • Act with integrity at all times
  • Willing to learn and have a can-do attitude
  • Able to follow instructions, either verbally directed or from written Operation Procedures.
  • Can communicate clearly and effectively
