  • Specimen and Patient Services at Whangarei Hospital are experiencing rapid growth in a fast paced environment. We receive specimens from both the community and four Northland hospitals;
  • servicing a population of least 180,000.

    Right now, we’re looking for an exceptional Medical Laboratory Technician with phlebotomy experience to join us at Whangarei Hospital.

    You will be at least two years post qualified and bring a thorough understanding of Specimen and Patient services.

    The Role :

    The primary function of this role is to :

  • Collect, prepare & analyse samples in accordance with the standard operating procedures in the lab to ensure a high level of service is maintained.
  • To ensure all activities are carried out with regard and recognition of Health and Safety requirements and personal safety.
  • Day to day upkeep of equipment and general housekeeping of workstations.
  • Be able to undertake other roles in the department relevant to your expertise.
  • Be able to assist on project work if required.
  • The work is challenging and will allow the successful applicant to become a key member of the pathology team; you will be mainly working within specimen and patient services.

    This role is very hands on with an element of administration.

    About you :

  • You will be qualified and registered with the Medical Sciences Council NZ with a current practising certificate as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • Work well in a pressured team environment and capable of working autonomously.
  • Good time management with excellent communication skills, show initiative and have the ability to work to deadlines, provide a high and accurate level of work output.
  • The ability to pick up new processes and information quickly is a necessity.

  • Be articulate and compassionate.
  • Approachable manner, and be able to provide a positive front-line profile.
  • Have a well-rounded knowledge of cultural traditions.
