About the role

As a Developer within the Applications Development group, you will provide end to end application development services, working across a variety of platforms and technologies.

The role is focused on providing business solutions as well as some support, advice and troubleshooting.

You will be focused on the development of web-based solutions in multi-user, distributed environments, preferably using Agile and / or DevOps methodologies and utilising technologies such as : Python, PHP, C# and SQL as well as common frameworks such as Django, Angular.JS or .NET.

Key tasks include :

  • Provide application development lifecycle services (design, development, integration, unit tests, debugging, release / implementation, support) using agreed or prescribed specifications, standards and tools.
  • Review and interpret requirements analysis, implement solutions and contribute to the development of design and technical specifications.
  • Write test cases and undertake code testing.
  • Provide effective, reliable plain language advice and recommendations in a manner easily interpreted by stakeholders.
  • Write "clean", clear, efficient, maintainable and (where applicable) reusable scripts and code to develop and integrate effective and efficient functional applications.
  • Create, maintain and complete all relevant documentation.
  • You will work collaboratively with ITS teams to help understand where existing services can be leveraged and identify opportunities to develop new services that will benefit the University of Otago community.

    Your skills and experience

  • Experience in an application development / solutions role using relevant technologies and programming languages such as Python, Javascript, HTML / CSS, PHP, and SQL
  • Knowledge of database design and development.
  • Exposure to a range of relevant frameworks and environments such as Django, Angular, .NET, or Codeigniter.
  • Knowledge of Git source code management, CI / CD, and iPaaS techniques and technologies.
  • The ability to translate user requirements into computer based programs and systems to achieve business, client-focused solutions.
  • Good written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work alone with little direct supervision but also as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage your time effectively and prioritise tasks.
