    Kōrero Manaaki (Counselling in Schools Service)

    The Fee for Service contractors will receive $90 per hour for the face to face session and the case notes attached to each tamariki, taitamariki and their whānau.

    About the role

    This newly created service will provide a range of culturally appropriate, evidence based and responsive therapeutic services for tamariki, taitamariki and their whānau attending specific schools in the contracted regions of Taranaki, Whanganui and Palmerston North selected schools and kura.

    Working closely with the school and community and linking with a team of colleagues coordinated and overseen by the Kaiwhakarite (Coordinator) - you will be making a real difference to vulnerable tamariki and taitamariki using your skills, experience and ability to connect culturally.

    Based in one of these communities you will be linked and focus on clients in your geographical area.

    These newly-created roles, Kaihautu will work directly with tamariki and taitamariki from year groups 1-13 and their whānau linking closely with the school team to understand the unique needs of each student.

    You will have a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi with an ability to apply this to Kaupapa Māori practice delivery.

    A good connection to the community and some fluency in Te Reo will be an advantage as will experience in working therapeutically.

  • About you

  • Has a sound knowledge of Te Ao Māori, Mātauranga Māori and Tikanga Māori, including commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Having some fluency in Te reo will be an advantage

  • Has a professional qualification equivalent to a Batchelor or higher and must be registered to a membership Board, ie Social Work, Counselling, Psychology
  • Is a full member of professional associations as agreed by the Ministry of Education
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of providing individual child and family counselling therapeutic interventions
  • Able to work cooperatively in a team environment
