Ko tā mātou mahi - Our Role

The KiwiBuild programme provides the opportunity for a step-change in the housing and construction sector by increasing land and house supply, investigating major greenfield and urban regeneration projects and exploring innovative ways to address market constraints.

We now have an exciting, newly created opportunity for a Development Manager - Underwrite to join our KiwiBuild team and be based in Auckland.

This unique role is focussed on delivering the 'Buy off the Plans' components of the work programme, which includes underwriting the procurement of affordable housing outcomes, undertaking due diligence and contracting.

  • Some of your key accountabilities within this role will include;
  • Preparing and negotiating property and commercial agreements around development opportunities
  • Managing the ongoing relationships between KiwiBuild and key developers
  • Undertaking and ensuring due diligence has been satisfactorily completed as part of recommending for approval Buy off the Plan transactions
  • Participating and advising on the procurement processes and engagement with potential and committed developers
  • Creating and monitoring a portfolio of transactions which meets the programmes objectives within constraints
  • Provision of ministerial services on behalf of KiwiBuild including WPQs, OIAs, OPQs, public queries and KiwiBuild specific queries
  • Assistance with preparation of Ministerial briefings and Board papers
  • Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu - What you will bring

  • At least 5 years' experience in the development / property sector and a understanding of the development life cycle
  • Understanding of residential valuations
  • Understanding of what constitutes good residential development within the constraints of affordable housing
  • Understanding of and experience in negotiating commercial contracts
  • Able to clearly articulate the value and risk of transactions to internal decision makers
  • Experience in managing relationships across a broad range of building industry providers
  • Experience in identification and management of risk in a political environment
  • Project management experience, including proven ability to successfully manage and lead multiple concurrent projects
