Treasury Solicitor Chief Legal Advisor Exceptional senior legal leadership opportunity that has impact at the heart of government An opportunity to bring strong leadership instil vision and steer a new direction Be part of a supportive collaborative and high performing environment Engage with a wide range of diverse stakeholders and work at the intersection of public policy commercial and financial matters Te Tai hanga The Treasury is the New Zealand Governments lead economic and financial advisor Our vision is to be a worldleading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders Alongside DPMC and SSC the Treasury is one of three central agencies responsible for providing leadership coordination and monitoring across the entire public sector The Opportunity We are a dynamic and evolving organisation and have a rare opportunity for a highly experienced lawyer to join as the Treasury Solicitor Chief Legal Advisor This is a key leadership advisory and governance role and is responsible for providing high quality legal and ministerial advisory services through the Legal Team and Ministerial Advisory Service MAS team Our Legal team supports the Treasury by providing legal advice on a wide range of issues to effectively manage legal risk and implement projects including the Treasurys current significant programme of legislation development The MAS Team drafts replies to Ministerial correspondence and assists with preparing responses to Official Information Act requests on behalf of the Treasury and or Ministers The Role Be responsible for legal risk management across the organisation and provide high quality legal advice that drives the decisions of Ministers the Secretary to the Treasury Treasurys ELT and senior management Work closely with the Deputy Treasury Solicitor Manager Legal and the MAS Team Leader providing strategic and operational guidance and leadership Positively encourage professional and personal development that drives high performance and builds capability that is leading edge Manage the finances of the teams for maximum effect within budget allocations reporting to the Chief Operating Officer Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with external and internal stakeholders including the central agencies Crown Law Parliamentary Counsel Office and other government lawyers Be a positive influence across the Government Legal Network and in the legal profession through leadership and practice About You Qualified to practise law in New Zealand and a current practising certificate or eligibility to hold a practising certificate Senior legal leadership experience ideally in a public sector organisation An excellent understanding and experience of inhouse legal practice and functions management and strategy development Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills Proven ability to think strategically and problemsolve Authentic leader with an inclusive and collaborative style The Treasury values diversity and inclusion and encourages a positive work nonwork balance with flexible work arrangements and a range of wellness initiatives Applications close Sunday 12 January 2020 All applications must be made online Please see the attached JD for details and for more information please contact Stephen Platts Team Assistant Stephen platts treasury govt nz to Aedeen BoaditaCormican Treasury Solicitor LIRS1
