Job Description

An opportunity to lead the government's collective response to family violence, sexual violence and violence within whānau and to shape a new way of working across agencies and in partnership with Māori.

  • The Social Wellbeing Board is forming a Joint Venture of chief executives, with the responsibility to lead and drive a whole-

    of-government response to reduce and prevent family violence, sexual violence and violence within whānau. The joint venture will be the lead advisor to the government on how to improve the wellbeing of the one million New Zealanders affected by family violence and sexual violence, through better intervention and prevention.

    As Director you will be responsible for setting up and leading the business unit that will support the joint venture and delivering an initial work programme comprising a national action plan and strategy, developing workforce capability across the system and sectors, and providing high quality policy advice and input to the Board and Government.

    You will play a crucial role in ensuring that the actions and policies of other agencies are aligned to reduce and prevent family and sexual violence, by working with senior officials and chief executives across the system.

    You will work collaboratively with NGOs, communities and service providers, and form meaningful partnerships with Māori.

    This role reports directly to the Social Wellbeing Board of chief executives. You will be responsible for the leadership and delivery of the work programme of the Joint Venture and you will help to steer and align the activities and policies of other agencies to common goals and strategy.

    To achieve this, you will be experienced in collaborating with and influencing chief executives and other senior leaders through effective communication and engagement.

    As someone with experience and understanding of how government works and a proven track record as a highly skilled senior leader, you'll bring an entrepreneurial flair, political savy and the leadership capability to deliver results.

    You will use your influence to bring about change, and effective communication to bring people along with you.

    To be credible in this role, you'll bring a history of providing innovative and strategic solutions and effective advice.

    You will have strong interpersonal skills and will drive change across the system in a positive and inclusive manner. You will be driven by a desire to make a significant impact on the wellbeing of New Zealanders both now and for the future.
