About the role

The Te Ahu a Turanga : Manawatū Tararua Highway Alliance is a major undertaking in the Manawatū region, to replace the 2017 slip damaged Manawatū Gorge.

Once complete, the project will provide a much-needed link through the ranges, and will mean travelling through the area will be much safer.

Consisting of 11.5km of new 4-lane road, 5 million cubic metres of earthworks, and 6 bridges, the project will provide employment opportunities in the region over the life of the project through to 2024.

The Te Ahu a Turanga Alliance consists of Waka Kotahi - NZTA, Local Iwi, Fulton Hogan, HEB Construction, Aurecon, and WSP.

This is a unique opportunity to implement, manage and drive the project’s commercial framework, including processes and systems.

You’ll ensure pricing aligns with how the project is delivered, understanding contractual obligations and terms, and be actively involved in risk analysis and resolution.

What we need from you

This is a key role where you will contribute to the strategic direction of the project. You will be involved in setting up robust systems and ensuring the commercial side connects closely with the project and client needs.

It is a hands on role that suits someone with previous experience on large projects, who is well versed with providing sound, timely commercial and financial reporting regularly.

As an active part of the Alliance Management Team, your role is the SME. The leadership team will look to you for the right guidance regarding the commercial element of the project.

You will provide governance, be a sounding board, and when required, draw the line firmly with permanent marker!

Communication and building relationships is your strength. You enjoy being the go to’, and work hard to quickly build trust in your team.

At the heart of your success will be your ability to establish relationships quickly so that people are comfortable approaching you with a variety of questions and problems that need solving.

You will be able to demonstrate capabilities in the following areas :

  • Sound commercial understanding of information, and offers analysis, interpretation and decision support to the business
  • Recognised qualification in Accounting or Quantity Surveying, and typically has at least 10-15+ years’ relevant experience
  • Ability to accurately and clearly convey complex information in a meaningful way
  • Knowledge and experience of management and financial accounting principles and practices
  • Customer service focus
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills that leads to strengthened capability in both what staff do and how they do it.
