The opportunity

You will have the chance to lead end-to-end delivery excellence in Structural Engineering through technical development and innovation, culture of design technical excellence, knowledge sharing and continual improvement.

You will also develop and implement the use of discipline specific standard tools and processes, including pro-active capture and re-use of intellectual property, best-practice development, knowledge transfer and integration in the business.

Co-ordinating with Practice Leads, Market Sector Leads and Group Leaders, you’ll provide the right person for the right project and ensure an appropriately skilled and resourced technical group to meet business operational and strategic needs.

Finally, we expect you to develop strategic direction for the national team in response to company and sector strategies.

Plus, lead client and project pursuits as required, as well as work with the Practice and Sector Leaders to define strategy and build our reputation, skills, knowledge, and business.

Key aspects of the role include :

  • Technical Development
  • Track Civil Structural practitioners and skill levels of staff; and assist Team Leaders in developing recruitment and planning strategies
  • Identify technical skill gaps and proactively support career development opportunities for the discipline practitioners
  • Co-ordinate the development and use of materials that improve the accuracy and efficiency of service delivery, including IP, guidelines, standards, training materials, tools and processes, etc.
  • Culture of Innovation & Improvement

  • Contribute to strategic development of the discipline in conjunction with the Sector & Practice Leaders and General Managers
  • Foster a culture of both co-operation within the relevant discipline and co-operation between disciplines aimed at achieving what is best for the project, the client and Stantec.
  • Facilitate the capture, development and use of Intellectual Property (IP), best practices and tools to support the developing a world-class engineering and delivery’ culture
  • Resourcing & Workloads

  • Work with Sector Leaders, Practice Leaders, Group Leaders, and clients to ensure that the discipline has sufficient capability and capacity to meet the needs of the market and to cope with workload.
  • Ensure pursuit, bid and project managers include appropriate specialist technical input in business development, pursuits, bids and projects aimed at delivering the right solution .

  • Participate in projects and achieve a required DT%
  • Complete all work in line with Stantec Core Values and in accordance with the Stantec Quality, Safety & Environment Systems and Project Quality Procedures

    Qualifications : About you

    About you

    You will have a tertiary qualification in structural engineering with at least 10 years relevant experience and membership of a relevant engineering professional body.

    You will be recognised across the business for leading skills in the structural discipline plus have good interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients.

    Highly developed consulting skills are a must to achieve mutually successful project outcomes, as well as good written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients across our business.

    Leadership skills are important too for mentoring and motivating employees and to be a role model within the business.
