PLEASE NOTE : This position will be based out of our New Zealand offices.
As Rocket Lab is expanding its launch capability with multiple launch sites, the Launch Operations Manager plays a key role in ensuring launch operations are conducted safely, reliably and efficiently.
Stationed at Rocket Lab€™s Mission Control Centre, this role will be focussed on managing operations during launch campaigns as well as providing strategic input towards achieving the highest launch rate.
In addition, you will also oversee the development of the launch crew and control facilities and ensure their mission readiness.
This role will drive improvement of internal processes and work closely with engineering teams to continually streamline and optimise launch operations.
As the Launch Operations Manager, you will play an integral role in delivering Rocket Lab€™s mission € reliable, affordable and frequent launch.
Launch Operations Management
Develop and maintain concept of operations for launch campaigns from multiple launch locations
Architect and manage the flow of operations during launch campaigns including but not limited checkout operations, pre-
launch integrated testing, rehearsals and launch
Review, develop and maintain test / launch procedures
Conduct and / or execute on-console operations in lead roles e.g. Range Control Officer, Launch Conductor or Launch Director
Conduct training exercises for launch operations
Lead and / or participate in gated readiness reviews for launch
Lead the expansion of launch control facilities to support multiple launch sites
Manage operations and maintenance of launch control facilities and supporting infrastructure
Ensure readiness of mission control and launch control facilities
Ensure launch crew readiness
Work closely with engineering teams to automate & optimize launch vehicle and pad operations
Support safety & mission assurance efforts
Continually improve and streamline launch operations
User interface and console design
Launch site operations support as required
Interface with regulatory authorities as required
Team Development + Management
Launch crew capacity planning for a high launch cadence from multiple launch locations
Develop and maintain launch crew training requirements
Develop and enhance launch crew certification program
Recruit and build the launch operations team
Develop systems and processes for human factors management
Lead, inspire and support your team
Staff performance management
If the above interests you, please ensure that you have the following qualifications :
Aerospace, mechanical, electrical, mechatronic engineering degree or equivalent
10+ years experience in engineering, test and / or operations
5+ years experience in leading time critical multi-disciplinary engineering operations
Proven leadership skills
Strong understanding of launch vehicle and spacecraft systems, orbital mechanics, telemetry and tracking systems, launch pad systems and process & controls
Strong technical writing skills and demonstrated experience with procedure development
Experience in test planning and execution
Experience with safety and mission assurance processes
Ability to perform in high pressure environments
Strong organization & communication skills
Experience executing / conducting rocket launch operations
Experience working at launch vehicle test or launch facilities
Experience with FAA, RCC, NASA and USAF compliance programs
