As Senior Policy Advisor you will undertake complex policy analysis, lead development of innovative, practical and durable policy options and provide sound policy advice in areas that are often complex and sensitive.

The Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for :

  • Leading and project managing complex policy work and project teams
  • Enhancing the overall capability of the team through coaching and mentoring team members during their day to day work, and against their longer-term development plans
  • Delivering high quality results to support the ministry's outcomes
  • Contributing to developing a strategic view of the policy agenda in the medium and long term, and analysing policy issues in a strategic and system context
  • Applying advanced system, strategic and critical thinking, clear and logical reasoning and sound judgement to analyse policy issues
  • Developing innovative, practical, effective and durable policy options that will help to achieve the desired outcomes
  • Reporting to the Policy Manager, you will work in an interesting and dynamic environment providing advice to Ministers on a range of critical housing policy issues and reforms.

    To be successful in this role you will be highly skilled at leading project teams and developing and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

    You will be comfortable leading multiple pieces of work concurrently while actively and independently planning and managing your workload.

  • In-depth understanding of current government context, policy agenda and priorities; ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and strategic agility as the needs and priorities of the Minister and the Ministry change
  • A strategic thinker who can identify what is important for the policy area in the medium and long term and system thinking to see policy issues in the wider context
  • Ability to apply an outward-looking approach to building relationships with external stakeholders, delivery agencies and government agencies
  • Ability to navigate effectively and flexibly through standard policy advisory processes and Cabinet requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
