What you will do
As the Whanau Support Worker you will provide a professional level of practical assistance to support the needs of individual members, partners and families whilst ensuring that operational needs are met.
This includes providing community based information, support and assistance to families of uniformed personnel. Please note : This role is referred to as Family Liaison Officer within NZDF.
What we need
We are seeking a person who is proactive and can relate effectively to a diverse range of people and children. You will need to be able to work with integrity, confidentiality and collaboratively across Naval Services to provide the best care and support for families / whanau.
You have prior experience of working within community settings where you have displayed empathy and caring for young children and families.
This experience has given you an extensive knowledge of local community resources which are valuable in this position.
Excellent communication skills are essential and a good level of computer literacy in the Microsoft Office Suite is needed.
In terms of qualifications a graduate qualification in Early Childhood Education / Nursing or related profession would be ideal with at least two years post graduate experience.
A full NZ Driver Licence is required and a First Aid Certificate is desirable.
Who we are
Naval Support Services (NSS) provide support to both shore and deployed personnel. The NSS is divided into three sections : Base Services, Corporate Services and Command Secretariat.
NSS provides all administrative, maintenance, coordination, human resources and public relations support for the Devonport Naval Base, Auckland.
The Naval Community Organisation (NCO) purpose, in the wider RNZN organisation is to provide and be responsible for comprehensive well-being services, support, advice and information to the naval community and in doing so contribute to the navy's effectiveness in reaching its strategic human resources goals i.e.
