Legal and Research Counsel Advisor Coronial Legal and Research a unique opportunity to help write judicial decisions and contribute to making New Zealand safer Based in Wellington and Christchurch MOJ 1426183 The Ministry of Justice provides a range of justice services around New Zealand We have more than 3000 people working across 120 locations around the country all working towards our vision of a safe and just New Zealand We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive legal professional to support New Zealands Chief Coroner Deputy Chief Coroner and coroners This is a role where your enthusiasm initiative and keen eye for detail will be key in providing timely robust and accurate legal drafting research and support to New Zealands coroners This role will suit someone who enjoys legal drafting and is hardworking mature positive and process driven About the role Your daytoday work will primarily involve assisting coroners in the drafting of findings as well as conducting legal research if required By assisting coroners to complete their inquiries into a range of unexpected unnatural and sudden deaths you will help make New Zealand a safer society build working relationships with a unique subset of the judiciary and be exposed to a fascinating area of law and justice The team you will be joining is a medium size with six legal colleagues based in Auckland Wellington and Christchurch and a legal team manager based in the Office of the Chief Coroner in the Auckland District Court We are looking for someone who is authentic respectful and inclusive of difference You will need to be open to challenging the status quo to continuously improve while also being able to take direction from your manager and the coroners We care about the wellbeing of our employees We wont expect long days from you but do expect that you work hard and smart and be a problemsolver We provide access to tools to look after your wellbeing such as professional counselling and support and some employee benefits such as subsidised health insurance It is critical that you be highly resilient and able to work with sensitive and potentially traumatic material We help to provide timely closure to families who have lost loved ones to suicide fatal motorvehicle collisions and other tragedies This is not a role to take on lightly Please expect to explain why it appeals to you and how you manage stress workload and traumatic material and your ability to work remotely of your wider team Skills and experience required To be successful in this role you will have strong interest in legal writing and ability to produce high quality written work excellent communication skills fantastic timemanagement and selfmanagement skills the ability to work independently while being open to collaboration excellent spelling grammar and attention to detail high level of resilience and ability to work with sensitive and traumatic material 2 years PQE Bachelor of Laws degree as a minimum This is a permanent fulltime position based in Wellington and Christchurch The salary range for the role is 61 744 87 167 How to apply To apply click the Apply button below to be directed to our Careers Website You can view a detailed position description at the site as well as complete an online application form by attaching your CV and cover letter Please indicate your preferred location Wellington or Christchurch in the cover letter For tracking purposes all applications must be submitted via our online process Applications close on Friday 25 October 2019 Report this job advert
