About the Role
This role in the International Policy Directorate in the Policy & Trade Branch of MPI, which has responsibility for hosting the Secretariat of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA), leading New Zealand's collaborative international research and capability building efforts on agricultural greenhouse gases.
The key responsibilities are :
Contribute to the design and implementation of New Zealand's collaborative international research efforts through the GRA.
Contribute to the design and implementation of New Zealand's capability building efforts through the GRA.
Manage day to day relationships with key providers of New Zealand's engagement in the GRA, in particular the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre.
Work alongside New Zealand government agencies, research institutions and universities, Māori, industry and other relevant stakeholders.
Establish and maintain linkages with relevant research and capability funders in other countries.
Mōu - About You
You will bring strong written and critical thinking skills and have the ability to work with ambiguity. Your experience or interest in the primary sectors as well as experience in tackling an issue, researching, developing proposals, reviewing and providing advice will enable you to achieve results.
You will have a relevant tertiary science qualification as well as :
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Strong critical thinking and scientific analysis skills.
Good interpersonal and communications skills.
Ability to think clearly and make decisions under pressure.
Ability to plan and prioritise use of time, and manage work flows.
Sound oral and written presentation ability.
Ability to build and maintain positive and productive relationships and networks.
Excellent problem anticipation and solving skills.
Ideally a sound knowledge of basic components of New Zealand's international climate change obligations, or strong willingness to upskill.
About MPI Global Research Alliance
MPI leads New Zealand's involvement with the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases and supports the GRA objectives to :
reduce the emissions intensity of agricultural production systems;
find more opportunities to increase the potential for soil carbon storage (a process known as sequestration);
align national research programmes and develop collaborative research projects; and
build knowledge and expertise across the global science community.
New Zealand also co-chairs the Livestock Research Group of the GRA, contributes to the Croplands and Integrative Research Groups and hosts the GRA Secretariat, including the Special Representative.
